About

My research area is in same-sex intimate partner violence (IPV). I am interested in how people involved with same-sex IPV, especially gay, bisexual and queer men, conceptualize the IPV in their lives. How do these understandings intersect with, and problematize, feminist and other theories of intimate partner violence. I am interested in how new theories and concepts of queer IPV will impact prevention programs, service delivery systems, and public policy related to IPV. I also work on research projects working with queer youth, LGBT elder caregiving dyads, and LGBT health disparities. In the future I intend to do more work integrating research on constructions of, and the impact of, social class in all of my projects.

I received my BASW, with a double concentration in sociology and cultural anthropology at the University of Pittsburgh and my MSW at the University of Michigan, where I concentrated on community organizing and communities and social systems. I am also interested in social movement theory and processes of social change.

Prior to returning for my doctoral training I worked for the Michigan Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence, taught Sociology at Washtenaw County Community College, and held a position in Student Services at the University of Michigan.

Lastly, I am interested in interpretive/qualitative methods of inquiry, especially in community-based participatory research (CBPR) and participatory action research (PAR).
