Why were there mass migrations of Chinese people to Malaya in the 19 th century? The approach that will be used to answer this question would be to first, provide background information on the nature of the Chinese migration in the 19 th century. Second, to outline economic and social conditions in Malaya during British rule in which the British and Malay aristocracy demanded high amounts of Chinese laborers. This will be classified as "pull" factors. Third, to examine the political and economic conditions in China which served as "push" factors for the Chinese. So basically this paper will be approached from 2 viewpoints, the demand for Chinese labor in Malaya and the supply of Chinese labor from China. It is well documented that the very first arrival of the Chinese in Malaya was the Zheng He's envoy in the 15 th century to the Malacca Sultanate in Malacca. Subsequently, the Emperor of China at that time strengthened diplomatic ties with Malacca by marrying his daughter, Hang Li Poh to the Malacca Sultan at that time.

Their result showed that the relation between the variations of student numbers with the variation of the current year's exchange rate is significant. (Abbot and Ali) I would expect the relation between exchange rate and enrollment numbers to be negative assuming international students react rationally to the change in exchange rates.

With headlines of grisly murder and audacious robbery cases dominating the headlines, one wonders what factors are contributing to crime rates in Malaysia. Ruling government politicians have put the blame on the inefficiency of the police force and easiness to obtain firearms due to poor law enforcement. The Malaysian public however has been citing the increase in immigrants. This is the problem we are trying to answer. What factors truly affect the crime rate in Malaysia? In modelling this crime problem, we have define a few factors that influence crime rate such as number of immigrants, police force, easiness to obtain gun & also tendency to involve in crime. We have incorporated some simple integration techniques, Matlab, and also Mathematica in solving our model. Matlab and Mathematica are mainly used to plot out the graphs and also solving out the complicated integration. What came to our surprise is that Malaysian people himself/herself is the main contributor to crime instead of immigrants. We have come out with a few reasonable explanations for this.
